1. Not legal advice

Canada's immigration rules are administered under the Immigration and Refugee Protection Act and its regulations, and they are interpreted and enforced by IRCC, by the provincial nominee programs, and by the Immigration and Refugee Board. Only a licensed immigration consultant or a lawyer admitted to a Canadian bar can advise you on how those rules apply to your specific facts.

We are neither. BeCanada does not practise law, is not a licensed immigration consultancy, and is not authorised to give immigration representation. Our articles explain what the published rules say and link to the source. They cannot tell you whether your application qualifies, whether your documents are sufficient, or what your chances are.

For advice about your own case, consult a licensed immigration consultant or a lawyer. In Ontario, consultants are regulated by the Immigration and Consultants Regulatory Council; lawyers are regulated by the Law Society of Ontario and equivalent bodies in other provinces. Verify anyone before you pay them — see the official list of licensed representatives and IRCC's fraud guidance.

2. No lawyer–client or consultant–client relationship

Reading this site, subscribing to it, emailing us, or using the contact form does not create a professional relationship of any kind. No confidentiality obligation, no duty of care, and no professional privilege arises from correspondence with us. Please do not send us identity documents, passport scans, tax returns, or anything you would not want published.

3. Information may be out of date

Immigration rules, fee amounts, proof-of-funds thresholds, language score conversions and application forms change regularly, sometimes with little notice. Prices for housing, groceries, transit fares, childcare and wages move with the market and vary sharply between cities and even between neighbourhoods.

Every article carries a publication date and a last-updated date, and ends with a Sources section pointing to the official publisher of each figure. Those dates tell you how current the information was when we checked it — not that it is current now. Always confirm a requirement on the official page before you act on it or pay anyone. We are not responsible for decisions made on the basis of outdated information.

4. Estimates and market data

Cost-of-living figures — rent, groceries, transit fares, salary ranges, tuition — are averages, ranges or estimates. They are labelled as such in the articles. They are not quotes, not offers, and not a guarantee of what you will pay. Your actual cost will depend on your city, your unit, your household and the date you read the page.

5. No immigration fraud, and no one to blame

BeCanada does not sell immigration services, does not charge consultation or application fees, does not sell access to an Express Entry pool, and has no relationship with any school, employer, program or government body.

Immigration fraud is widespread and targets exactly the people reading this kind of site. No legitimate representative will ever ask you to pay a fee to be placed in an Express Entry pool, to guarantee an invitation, to obtain a job offer, or to "unlock" a government form. Be suspicious of anyone who does, whoever referred you to them. If you have been targeted, report it to the Canadian Anti-Fraud Centre and to the RCMP.

6. No liability

To the fullest extent permitted by law, BeCanada and the author of any article accept no liability for any loss or damage — financial, legal, professional or otherwise — arising from your use of this site, your reliance on anything published here, or your dealings with any third party you found through it. You are responsible for your own decisions and for obtaining your own professional advice.

7. This site's own commercial activity

Separately from the guides, this site is published on a domain name that is offered for sale. That is the site's only commercial activity, and it has no effect on the editorial content: the site carries no advertising, accepts no paid placements, and takes no payment in exchange for a favourable article or a link. 8. Corrections

If you believe something here is wrong, tell us — see the contact page. Material corrections are recorded publicly rather than edited away silently.
